Switch The Left Front Window On The 1999 Buick Lesabre

Remove the mounting screws completely from the door panel. If you do not see two mounting holes beneath the armrest, look in the center of the door puller handle for a single upward-facing screw and remove it.6. Pull the door panel out and upward to remove it from the doorframe.

The One thousand nine hundred ninety nine LeSabre was produced with power windows and door locks as a standard option. Removing and replacing the windows in the car can be challenging, as there is much work to be done just to get to the window or door glass. This project should take about three hours, even if you have never done this type of work before.

Instructions

Front Door Glass Removal

1. Open the driver's-side door of the LeSabre and move the driver's seat as far back as it will go. Moving the seat back will give you greater maneuverability with your body throughout this entire project. Turn the ignition key to the "II" or accessories position. Roll the driver's window halfway down, then turn the ignition key to the "OFF" position. Rolling down the driver's window will give you access to the door glass regulator mounting rail, and will assist in other portions of this project.

2. Pull the door opening handle inside the door panel toward you, and remove the small screw behind the handle. Use a star bit or TORX driver to remove the screw by turning it counterclockwise. All screws and bolts within this project are removed by turning counterclockwise, and installed by turning clockwise. Remove the plastic shield from behind the door opening handle. Use a flat-head screwdriver to remove the door lock connecting rod from the door lock slide on the plastic shield. Insert the screwdriver behind the rod and pry the rod off the door lock slide.

3. Remove the two small screws from the inside the side view mirror assembly shield. This shield is at the front of the window and shaped like a triangle. Use a star bit or TORX bit driver to remove the screws. Pull the shield off the door panel by hand.

4. Insert a flat-head screwdriver between the door puller handle and the electrical switch plate on the handle. Do not pull the bottom of the door panel out too far, or your will possibly tear the small speaker wires inside the door. Reach down and around the front of the door panel, inside the doorframe, with your right hand. Remove the speaker wires from the speaker by simply pulling them off the speaker. Remove the door panel completely from the LeSabre, and set it out of your work area. Set the switch panel on the passenger seat, away from your work area.

5. Insert a large Phillips-head screwdriver into the mounting holes in the bottom of the door handle armrest.

The window in the left front or Chauffeur's door on the One thousand nine hundred ninety nine LeSabre is accessed from carry on the inner door panel.General Motors introduced the Buick LeSabre in 1959. The One thousand nine hundred ninety nine Buick LeSabre was equipped with a 3.8-liter V-6, capable of producing up to Two hundred five horsepower and Two hundred sixty foot-pounds of torque.

Pry the front of the switch plate up, then slide it out of the door handle by hand. Remove the electrical connectors on the back of the window switches and the side view mirror control switches. Simply pull the connectors off the switch panels with one hand, while holding the panel in your other hand.

7. Heat the top edge and two side edges of the weather shield on the doorframe. This shield is a weatherproof cover and moisture barrier for the electronics in the door. Use a hair dryer attached to an extension cord to heat the glue that holds the weather shield in place. Slowly peel the entire weather shield off the doorframe, about halfway down the frame. This will expose the parts you need to access to remove the door glass.

8. Remove the mounting nuts from the bottom of the window regulator rail, which is glued to the bottom of the door glass. Use a 3/8-inch drive ratchet and socket, along with a 6-inch extension to remove the retainer nuts. Using an extension between the ratchet and socket will allow you to reach the retainer nuts without cutting your hands on the sharp sheet metal of the inner doorframe.

9. Remove the window from the doorframe by pulling the window directly upward from outside of the car. Pull the window up and toward you as you stand outside the door. Remove the old window completely from the LeSabre and set it out of your work area. (See photo reference for exploded view of this step.)

Front Door Glass Installation

10. Install the new door glass into the doorframe from the outside of the door. Set the door glass into the doorframe and downward onto the window regulator frame. Make sure the door glass aligns with the window track inside of the doorframe. There are two tracks, one toward the front side of the doorframe and one toward the rear.

11. Move around to the driver's seat of the car. Align the window regulator rail at the bottom of the window, using the window regulator bolts. Install the window regulator rail tie-down nuts by hand. Use a 3/8-inch drive ratchet and socket along with a 6-inch extension to tighten the regulator nuts. Turn the tie-down nuts until they are snug, and then turn the ratchet 1/4-turn farther. Do not overtighten these tie-down nuts.

12. Reinstall the weather seal onto the doorframe. The inner weather seal is self-adhesive, so just push the seal back on then run your fingers around the edge of the frame, pushing the weather seal back onto the door.

13. Reinstall the door panel onto the doorframe of the LeSabre, but do not push it downward as you will need it to be somewhat loose. Install the speaker wires onto the rear of the speaker by hand. The wire leads are two different sizes, so you cannot put them on wrong. Reach behind the door panel toward the top, and reconnect the door lock slide to the inner connecting rod in the doorframe by hand.

14. Push the door panel downward into position on the doorframe. Install the retainer screw through the door panel and into the doorframe by hand. If the door retainer screws are in the bottom of the door armrest, install them by hand. Tighten the door retainer screw or screws with a large Phillips-head screwdriver.

15. Install the plastic shield behind the door opener handle. Insert the shield retainer screw, and tighten the screw with a star bit or TORX bit driver. Turn the screw until it is snug, but do not tighten it any farther. There is no need to torque or overtighten this screw, and doing so will break the brittle plastic shield.

16. Install the wire connectors onto the back of the window switch panel and mirror control switch panel by hand. Push the connectors onto the switch panels by hand. Push the entire switch panel back into the door panel by hand. The switch panel will snap into place. Reinstall the triangular panel that sits behind the side view mirror. Snug the plastic cover into place by tightening the screws, using a star bit or TORX driver. Do not overtighten the screws or you will break the plastic cover.

17.Turn the ignition key to the "II" or accessories position. Roll the window up with the switch panel inch-by-inch. If the window meets any resistance, stop rolling the window up immediately. If this happens, remove the door panel again and check your alignment of the window.
