The brake caliper pin is a drawn out thin rod that holds the front brake pads in situate on your Two thousand one Toyota Tundra. The pin fits snugly over holes on Everyone side of your brake caliper. It can be removed with a hole punch and a rubber mallet. Sometimes, the pin can wear, get bent or be otherwise damaged. When this occurs the pin should be completely replaced. Not replacing the pin could result in damage to your brakes. This repair takes approximately Thirty minutes.
Instructions
1. Engage the emergency brake on your Tundra and loosen the lug nuts on the tire you will change the brake caliper pin on.
2. Jack up the front end of your Tundra and put jack stands underneath the frame. Lower the Tundra down onto the jack stands.
3. Remove the lug nuts and tire. This will give you immediate access to your brake caliper. Locate the break caliper pins. There are two pins that run across the width of each caliper. Hold the hole punch to the outer side of your brake caliper pin and tap against it lightly with the rubber mallet. This will force it through slightly on the other side. Grab the tip of the pin with a pair of pliers and pull it all the way out.
One is located at the top front caliper, the other at the bottom front caliper. Determine which pin you will be replacing.4.
5. Set the replacement pin against the pin mounting hole on the inside of the brake caliper and feed it through by hand as far as it will go. Tap the end of it with the mallet lightly until it slides all the way into place.
6. Replace tire and lug nuts. Jack up your Tundra some and remove the jack stands. Lower Tundra off the jack.
