Take Away The Bumper On The 1988 Mustang

Instructions


Front Bumper


A single support bracket is located on each end of the bumper. Each bracket contains four retaining bolts. Remove the bolts from both brackets with a socket wrench.


2. Locate the two bumper end brackets and the two isolator brackets. Both types of brackets must be accessed from underneath the vehicle. As their name suggests, a single bumper end bracket is located on each end of the bumper. The isolator brackets resemble metal arms and are located between the two end brackets.


3. Remove with a socket wrench the four retaining bolts that secure each bumper end bracket to the inside of the bumper.


4. Remove with a socket wrench the four retaining bolts that secure each of the two isolator brackets to the inside of the bumper.


5. Pull the bumper off the Mustang.


Rear Bumper


6. Raise the back of the Mustang with a jack to access the bumper's retaining bolts. Lower the car onto jack stands.


7. Remove with a socket wrench the six retaining bolts that secure the plastic bumper cover to the bumper. Lift the bumper cover off the bumper. The retaining bolts are located on the bottom of the bumper cover.


8. Disconnect the bumper from its two support brackets.1. Uplift the front of the Mustang with a jack to access the bumper's retaining bolts. Lower the car onto jack stands. Lift the bumper off the Mustang.
