Remove the rust from your metal door and protect it from ultimate rust.

Instructions
1. Spray ammonia-based cleaner on the door. Allow each coat to dry to the touch before applying the next. Allow the final coat of paint to dry overnight.
3. Attach medium grit sandpaper to a palm sander. Sand the door to remove any rust the brush did not knock loose. Remove all remaining rust particles. Sand the rest of the door gently to scuff the surface and prep for paint.
4. Fill a putty knife with metal putty. Use it to fill any holes in the metal. Smooth the knife over the surface of the metal to smooth the putty. Let it dry completely. Sand the patched area to smooth the top and prep for painting. Wipe away the sanding dust with a damp rag.
5. Prime the metal parts of the door with an oil-based primer for metal. Choose a rust-inhibiting primer. Apply a thin, even coat of primer with a smooth foam roller. The foam roller will apply the paint without texture and create a smooth surface.
6. Paint the door with oil-based metal paint. Choose a rust preventative paint. Roll on three to four very thin coats of paint with the smooth foam roller. Wipe it clean with a rag and remove all dust and residue from the surface.2. Scrub the rust on the door with a steel-bristled brush. Move the brush back and forth quickly and with firm pressure to dislodge as much rust as possible.
