Personalize A 2006 Chevrolet Impala

Late-model Impalas decrease the horsepower of the early models.

The late-model Chevy Impala lacks one object that the early pattern Impalas had: horsepower! The legendary Impala fame begs to be associated with the classic styling and green horsepower that the earlier Impalas had. With nowadays's computerized engines, it may prompt expensive nevertheless it is practicable to receive horsepower gains from your existing Impala by installing various engine upgrades that sanction the engine's personal computer to burgeoning horsepower output. This increases low-end throttle response and horsepower.4. Upgrade the exhaust system.

Upgrade the restrictive air intake with a cold-air intake. A cold-air intake eliminates the black, covered container that the filter sits in and replaces it with much larger air filter that pulls cold air from the inner fender. The increased airflow into the engine helps to produce more horsepower. According to K&N Filters, a cold-air intake adds approximately 13.48 horsepower over the stock horsepower output.

2. Install a functional ram-air hood. A ram-air hood has one or more holes located in the hood that direct cold air from outside of the car to the air filter. The reduced air temperatures and airflow creates additional horsepower in the same manner as the cold-air intake. It also gives the Impala a different, aggressive look that resembles early-model Impalas.

3. Install a large-bore throttle body. The throttle body regulates the amount of air that flows from the air intake into the combustion chambers of the engine. With a high-flow cold-air intake installed, the airflow will "bottleneck," or be restricted at the throttle body. A larger-bore throttle body accommodates the increased airflow and allows maximum airflow into the engine. This can deliver your Impala the nostalgic excitation of yesteryear's Impala.

Instructions

1.

Replace the restrictive exhaust manifold with headers. Headers work like the exhaust manifold but each tube is the same length and there are no internal welds. Each tube is mandrel bent. This allows spent gases to escape from the combustion chamber faster, thus allowing fresh air and new fuel into the combustion chamber at a faster pace.

5. Tune the computer with an ECU (electronic control unit) tuner. If you install components that change how the engine works, you must tune the computer with a hand-held ECU tuner. The engine will not know to push more gas into the combustion chamber to keep the fuel-air mixtures correct. In addition, the engine must increase the rate of spark produced by the spark plugs. The tuner will ensure everything is tuned correctly to work together.
