The exhaust manifolds on the 2001 Ford F-150 should be changed when you hear them leaking. Depending on how damaging the leak is, you might hear a hissing sound, or you could hear a tapping sound. The exhaust leak should be repaired condign absent, as it Testament isolated arouse worse and Testament eventually damage the engine, as it causes gaunt exhaust conditions.
Instructions
1. Up thrust the vehicle with the floor jack, then aid it with jack stands. Remove the front fender splash shield, using the appropriate socket. If the engine is a 4.6- or 5.4-liter engine, remove the brake booster hose and bracket at the exhaust manifold and the EGR valve tube, using the appropriate sockets.
2. Remove the nuts from the exhaust manifold, using the appropriate socket or wrench, whichever tool fits between the pipes. The way the pipes are bent sometimes makes getting a socket on the nut difficult, and it's simply faster to use a wrench.
3. Pull the manifold away from the engine far enough to pull the gasket off the engine. Ensure that no pieces of gasket are left on the engine or manifold gasket-mounting surfaces.
Reinstall the EGR tube, the brake booster hose and its bracket. Reinstall the front fender splash shield. Lower the F-150 off the jack stands, using the floor jack. Tighten the nut under that, then the next top nut, then the nut under that. Tighten the rest of the nuts, working from back to front and top to bottom.
5.4. Position the new exhaust manifold gasket on the studs and push the exhaust manifold up to the engine and onto the studs. Install all the nuts by hand as far as they will go. Tighten the nuts to Eighteen foot-pounds of torque, starting with the nut on the top of the exhaust manifold closest to the firewall.
