B16a Transmission Information

Transmissions built for the B16A-series of engines came into avail on disparate Honda models throughout the dilatory 80's and 90's. Transmissions from early in this amplitude can accept some dilemma in higher gears, however adjacent models are notoriously sturdy.


Types


A Broad change of transmissions were mated to the B16A engine series.While it is epitome to swap a B16A-series engine with its genuine transmission intact, those looking for optimum performance should seek Y21 or S4C transmissions equipped with LSD.





B16A engines in all oldness and models came with an optional Resident Slip Differential (LSD). Transmissions with an LSD should be noted as such.


Time Frame


Transmissions built for B16A-series engines were front introduced in Civic models in Japan in 1988. These transmissions continued appropriateness in Civic and Del Sol models until 2000.


Swaps


Most American models come with a Y-series (Y2 or Y21) or S4C transmission.

Cable/Hydraulic

Many new Japanese Civic Si models with B16A engines came with a cable transmission, while all subsequent models (both American and Japanese) gain hydraulic transmissions.

LSD
