Replace A Chainsaw Carburetor

Remove the air filter cover. Clean any dust or debris from the air filter, and then remove it. If necessary, remove the top or side cover of the chainsaw.


2. Drain the fuel tank, or clamp the fuel line with pliers to prevent gasoline from spilling. Disconnect the fuel line from the carburetor. If your chainsaw has a pulse line (another hose that looks like a fuel line, used for pressurizing the fuel pump), disconnect it.


3. Remove the screws that hold the carburetor to the engine with a screwdriver or wrench. (There are usually two or four of these screws.) Unfasten the choke linkage, and unfasten the carburetor from the throttle linkage. Carefully lift out the old carburetor.


4. Clean the carburetor base, and replace the old carburetor gasket with a new one. Mount the new carburetor on the engine, using the screws from the old carburetor. Reattach the throttle and choke linkages. Reattach the fuel line and the pulse line (if your chainsaw has one). Test the throttle and choke. Inspect all connections.


5. Reassemble any covers that you took off. Install the new air filter, and replace the air filter cover. Fill the chainsaw with fuel and oil, and test the chainsaw, adjusting the idle and mix screws as necessary.
