Trobleshoot and fix The Ignition System Within An Oldsmobile Alero

The Alero was one of Oldsmobile's behind models created. So it's one of the sporadic where all were mythical with a distributorless ignition manner. The type of advantage you can perform expressly depends on the engine immensity. A plentiful step is recommended for a 3.1L engine, while the Glimmer assessment and ignition coils are prime for a 2.4L engine.

Instructions

Distributorless System Testing

1. Turn on the Alero's ignition switch and verify that the "Advantage Engine Soon" luminosity comes on.

2. Degree the Throttle Position Sensor's voltage with a multimeter. it should be no amassed than 2.5 volts at closed throttle.

3. Peep the Engine Coolant Temperature sensor. it should be between Twenty two and Two hundred sixty six degrees F.

4. Disengage the injector connectors and install an injector dry run illumination in the injector harness. The essay glossy should be off when you arrange this. Repeat for one injector on Everyone bank.

5. Connect a Glimmer checker to a Glimmer plug wire, Eccentric person the engine and beholding for a Glimmer. Trial at least two spark plug wires this course.

6. Re-connect the spark plug wires provided a Glimmer occurred. Evaluation for any fuel spray at the injector(s) while cranking the engine.

7. Check the battery voltage to the ignition system if no spark occurred. It should be around Twelve volts.

Spark Test

9. Ground the tester onto an appropriate metal location on the engine.10. Crank the engine and check for a spark on the tester.

8. Attach a spark plug tester to a disconnected spark plug boot. You must adjust the tester for the individual spark plug gap specified for the Alero's engine.

A blue spark is strong while a yellow or orange one is weak.

Ignition Coils

11. Make sure the Alero's ignition is off and disconnect the negative battery cable.

12. Unplug the ignition coil pack from the vehicle harness connector.

13. Use a Digital Volt Ohmmeter To gauge the resistance between terminals. The reading should be greater than Ten kilohms.
