Insert a 4-inch wood screw in the middle of the hinge to secure the hinge to the door jamb. Tighten the remaining two screws.
4. Open and close the door while checking the alignment of the latch bolt to the strike plate to determine if the door needs raising or lowering. To raise the position of the latch bolt, remove the screws securing the lower hinge to the door jamb. Insert a piece of cardboard (the size of the hinge leaf) between the hinge and the door jamb. Secure the hinge to the door jamb with the retaining screws.
5. Remove the screws securing the top hinge to the door jamb, if the position of the latch bolt needs to be slightly lower. Operate the door and watch the hinges closely. Look for any hinge that appears to lift off the door jamb slightly. This will most often be noticeable on the center or top hinge.
