Fill Nail Holes In Molding

A nailset is used to push a nail head into the moulding so that it is not visible after installation.

Decorative molding can be an attractive addition to your home's interior design. The installation of most molding requires the ornate wood strips to attached to the walls and ceiling using finishing nails that have a narrow head designed to be hidden within the molding after installation. Place the nailset over the exposed head of the finishing nail in the molding.2. Firmly tap the butt of the nailset with the hammer until the tip of the nailset drives the nail's head 1/8 inch into the molding.

After the application of wood putty and light sanding, these nail holes will be seamlessly integrated into the molding. With a few tools and careful attention to detail, you can successfully set and fill the nail holes in molding.

Instructions

Be careful not to hit the molding or the wall when hammering.

3. Place a pea-sized amount of wood putty on your index finger and gently press it into the hole created over top of the nail.

7. Sand the putty locations gently with sandpaper to remove any excess and blend the wood filler into the molding.
