Replace Brake Pads On The C5 Corvettes

C5 Corvettes


The "C5" title denotes the fifth interval of the Chevrolet Corvette. On account of its inception in 1952, the Corvette has always been a chieftain in automotive performance, including the brake systems. The C5 is equipped with four spin CD brakes and dual piston calipers. While the brakes are quite massive for a passenger automobile, replacing the brake pads in a C5 Corvette isn't any else exhausting than a coinciding brake billet on most other vehicles. Anyone with basic Car repair skills can perform this appointment in roughly half a generation.


Instructions


1. Chock the rear wheels and then loosen the lug nuts on all four wheels using the lug wrench.


2. Slide the floor jack under the front confine and lift the Corvette altitudinous Sufficiently to deposit two jack stands under the front frame. Lower the Corvette off the jack stands in reverse of step two. Tighten all the lug nuts to One hundred foot pounds.


3. Pull all the lug nuts and wheels off by share.


4. Settle the take pan under the hold up front brake meeting and spray the brakes off with the brake cleaner. It's important to remove as much brake dust as possible so that you don't breathe it in during the repair.


5. Remove the caliper bolts with the socket set and then pull the caliper off the brake rotor by hand. Pull the brake pads out of the caliper by hand. Spray the caliper out with the brake cleaner to remove any brake dust or road dirt from the caliper. Lubricate the caliper slides with white lithium grease to prevent them from sticking during braking.


6. Insert the caliper piston tool and push the caliper pistons back into the calipers with the tool. Pull the tool out and insert the brake pads by hand. Slide the caliper back over the rotor and reinstall the caliper bolts with the socket set.


7. Repeat steps four through six on the other three corners of the Corvette.


8. Reinstall the wheels and lug nuts by hand. Tighten the lug nuts down just far enough to hold the wheels flush with the rotors.


9. Lower the machine onto the jack stands. Repeat in the rear until the machine is completely off the ground and safely supported on the jack stands. Assemble definite that the jack stands are under the frame or the unharmed jacking points.
