Install The Ignition Turn On A Gas Scooter

Motorcycles and scooters tend to plam the identical ignition switch designs.


Installing or replacing a scooter ignition switch requires a bit of electrical kindly, some basic repair skill and a potentiality drill with a grinder bit provided imperative. Once connected and wired up, the switch works as a direction end for your battery-driven or ignition-driven scooter electrical process. Acting as a basic gate, the switch allows a order completion when on, and it cuts the succession when off. Installing the switch is a bit tricky, on the contrary it's potential with the equitable tools and a small allotment.


Instructions


1. Manipulate a Phillips screwdriver to unscrew the scooter headset so that it can be lifted off the employ bar. Carefully lift the headset subsume with the ignition switch provided it is on the top (it may be on the backside of the headset on some models). Disconnect all wiring connected to the gray ignition switch by removing the connectors to the switch itself.


2. Grab the ignition lock phone on the surface, exposed side of the headset involve and the inside ignition switch factor. Some scooters obtain the ignition switch installed on the backside headset frame. Twist counterclockwise to loosen the lock ring. Use the adjustable pliers to force the lock ring to turn if it is stuck. Loosen the ring until it falls off. Use your thumb to push the remaining part through the headset frame. Remove the old switch.


3. Push the threaded side of the new ignition switch into the headset frame hole where the old one was. If it doesn't fit right, use a power drill with a grinder bit to carefully widen the hole. Some aftermarket switches are not made to scooter manufacturer specs. Screw on the new lock ring when the new switch snugly fits through to the external side of the headset cover. Tighten the ring clockwise, but be careful not overtighten.


4. Pull together the electrical wires still attached to the scooter wiring harness. Use the crimper/stripper tool to pinch the new connector on the wire as needed.5. Insert the scooter key that came with the new switch into the ignition and turn it to the "on" position before reinstalling the headset. Install them by hand onto the new switch. Cut, strip insulation and install a new connector on a wire if the wire's old connector does not fit the new ignition switch. Some aftermarket switches may use different size connectors than the original.


Look for the scooter lights to turn on as the battery circuit connects. Do not turn over the engine yet. Turn the switch off again and reconnect the headset. Use the Phillips screwdriver to attach the headset screws and tighten the headset down. Do not overtighten.


6. Start the scooter and make sure the ignition switch still works by turning on the lights. Start the engine by either kicking it over with a kickstart pedal or using the automatic starter if one is included. While the engine is running, turn the ignition switch to the "off" position to kill the engine and test the kill function. Restart if successful and take the scooter for a test ride.
