The Corvette was conceived by Usual Engine's Manager stylist Harley Earl and designer Zora Arkus-Duntov for the One thousand nine hundred fifty three base year. Inspiration

Exterior
The completely restyled item did in reality resemble the lines of a mako shark with a nod to the Jaguar. The engine hood was Apartment lodgings and featured non-functional vents. The nose tapered to a thin borderline, and the traditional radiator opening was eliminated. The prime aspect was the fastback and rear split window.

The 1963 Corvette split window coupe sat on a short 98-inch wheelbase and measured 175.3 inches spread out. It rose to a heighth of peerless 49.8 inches and weighed 3,150 lbs. It was equipped with front and rear independent suspension, hydraulic shock absorbers, a rear constant differential and transverse episode springs.
Under the Hood
The 1963 model was powered by a 327-cubic-inch V-8 with horsepower options of 250, 300, Three hundred fourty and 360. The engines were matched by either a three- or four-speed volume or two-speed Powerglide automatic transmission. Most buyers, but, preferred a handbook transmission, with lone Fifteen percent opting for the automatic.
Performance and Production
The One thousand nine hundred sixty three Sting Dtreak was a favourite on the racing progression, consistently winning top honors. The 300-horsepower Three hundred twenty seven Sting Ray with a four-speed manual transmission was capable of hitting Zero to Sixty mph in 6.1 seconds and the quarter-mile in 14.5 seconds at One hundred mph. The Sting Ray coupe sold for $4,252, with a total of 21,513 coupes and convertibles produced. In all, 10,594 split-window coupes were manufactured.
