Switch The Rear Brakes On The 2000 Mustang

Calipers territory the rear brake pads on Ford's Two thousand model-year Mustang.

Ford equipped its Two thousand model-year Mustangs with four-wheel, anti-lock CD brakes. A hydraulically activated, single-piston caliper houses the rear brake pads. When the brake pedal is depressed, brake fluid pushes the caliper cylinder against the pads, which then application friction to the brake CD. Brakes thirst for popular maintenence to deposit the braking manner in working disposal. Scrutinize the brakes on your Mustang every 15,000 miles and transform the pads when worn or when the brakes eject a metal-on-metal squealing blast when applied.

Instructions

1. Extended the hood. Set the brake crackerjack cylinder on the Chauffeur's side of the engine compartment in front of the firewall. Swab dirt and Non-native concern from the top of the crack cylinder with the shop rag. Remove the proficient cylinder's filler cap by plam. Suction approximately half of the brake fluid from the skillful cylinder.

2. Cleft the torque on the rear wheels' lug nuts with the lug-nut wrench. Turn the lug nuts approximately 1/2 turn counterclockwise.

3. Lift the rear of the motorcar off the ground. Bedding the motorcar on jack stands. Remove the lug nuts. Remove the rear wheels.

4. Remove the rear CD brake caliper bolts with a wrench. Twist the caliper slightly to press the internal piston into the caliper housing, then lift the caliper off the rotor. Examine how the pads are seated inside the caliper housing, and sign the orientation of the slippers (the tabs on Everyone boundary of the pads) and of the spring.

10. Pump the brake pedal gently several times to seat the caliper pistons properly against the new pads. Recheck the brake fluid level in the master cylinder and top it off as needed. Remove the rear caliper piston adjuster, then hang the caliper inside the rotate able-bodied with the bungee cord.

6. Remove the slippers from the brake pads, Install the slippers on the fresh pads in the equivalent orientation. Install the pads into the caliper.

7. Position the caliper on the brake rotor and install the rear CD brake caliper bolts. Torque the caliper bolts to Twenty five foot-lbs. with the torque wrench.

8. Install the rear wheels. Raise the rear of the car off the jack stands. Remove the jack stands and lower the car to the ground. Torque the lug nuts to Ninety five foot-lbs.

9. Add high-performance DOT Three motor vehicle brake fluid to the master cylinder. Fill to the "Full" mark. Reinstall the master cylinder's filler cap.

5. Remove the pads from the cradle of the caliper. Comprehend the round limitation of the rear caliper piston adjuster into the piston and then turn it clockwise to press the piston into the caliper.
