4. Install the new alternator by setting it into its location and install the lower bolt first. This holds the alternator in place while the wires are installed. After installing the wires, place the upper bolts into place. If the alternator is solidly mounted, tighten all the bolts, lever the tensioner back To admit for belt installation. Place the belt on the alternator and slowly apply tension to the alternator belt. If the alternator is the pivot type, install the upper adjusting bolts and leave them hand tight. Install and adjust the belt, then tighten the upper and lower alternator bolts.


5. Attach the battery cable and start the car. Check the alternator gauge for proper output. Observe the alternator and behold how it is attached to the engine. Normally there are two or three bolts.2.
