Remove & Replace An Oxygen Sensor Inside A 1999 Camry

Pop the hood and locate the exhaust manifold on the front of the engine. It's silver in color and has a large riveted warning on the front of it. Just to the right of the warning is the oxygen sensor. Unclip the lead running from the sensor to the vehicle's harness, using your hands.

When the sensor goes out, the "check engine" light on the dashboard will illuminate and the car will run poorly until it is fixed. On a 1999 Camry, this is an easy process.

Instructions

1.This exhaust manifold is chunk of a machine's exhaust manner. One conspicuous emissions direction on your motorcar is the oxygen sensor. It helps the computer determine how well the car is running and what adjustments need to be made to improve performance and emissions.

2. Unbolt the oxygen sensor from the exhaust manifold using the ratchet with a deep-well socket, then lift the sensor and gasket off of the manifold.

3. Slide the replacement gasket onto the studs on the exhaust manifold. Apply a thin coat of the anti-seize compound onto the studs.

4. Carefully place the replacement oxygen sensor onto the exhaust manifold, making sure not to touch the head of the sensor to the anti-seize compound on the threads. Bolt it in place using a 3/8-inch ratchet and deep-well socket.
